Block 4

How much time do you spend a day on the news? When do you usually check out the news? What news are you most interested in?

News are part of our daily life.

I spend an hour a day on the news. In the morning and at night. I like watching news about polities, accidentes, economia, tecnologia ,theatre, fairs, cinema, etc
The means that normally I use are Internet and TV, sometimes when am going from way to study I listen to the radio a few minutes to find out about the current importance.

When am going from way to study I listen to the radio a few minutes to find out about the current importance.

Sometimes, people don’t care news and that is a big problem, because they don’t know what is happening in our country and our world.

I think it's important to know what's going on in the world, regardless of where you get that information. People should be interested, should WANT to know whats going on in the world.

Why do people have regrets about things

 in their life?

Everyone goes through life experiencing enough mistakes and resulting damage that, by the time they are old enough, they have regrets. They say hindsight is 20/20 and when you look back at your life you will know what moments you should have changed.

We are all busy. Life happens. There’s always something to distract us from getting around to certain things we know we should do.

In the backs of our minds, we know we’re neglecting some stuff we should do. But we never get around to it.

Our greatest fear should not be of failure, but of succeeding at things in life that don’t really matter.”

Here is a list of the biggest ones we’ll probably have.

The question is, are you going to change anything this afternoon or tomorrow in light of this list?  Or are you going to go back to your busy life?

  1. Stayed in touch with some good friends from my childhood and youth
  2. Turned off my phone more/Left my phone at home
  3. I wish I'd had the courage to live a life true to myself, not the life others expected of me.
  4.  I wish I hadn't worked so hard.
  5. I wish I'd had the courage to express my feelings.
  6. I wish I had stayed in touch with my friends.
  7. I never pursued my dreams and aspirations.
  8. I should have spoken my mind instead of holding back and resenting things.
  9.  I should have been the bigger person and resolved my problems.

Block 2

What do you think about healthy food?

Eating healthy can help you prevent disease.

A nutritious, well-balanced diet – along with physical activity and refraining from smoking – is the foundation of good health. Healthy eating includes consuming high-quality proteins, carbohydrates, heart-healthy fats, vitamins, minerals and water in the foods you take in while minimizing processed foods, saturated fats and alcohol. Eating in this manner helps you maintain your body’s everyday functions, promotes optimal body weight and can assist in disease prevention.

Overall Health

The nutrients in the foods you eat support the activities of day-to-day living, protect your cells from environmental damage and repair any cellular damage that might occur. Protein rebuilds injured tissue and promotes a healthy immune system. Both carbohydrates and fats fuel your body, while vitamins and minerals function throughout your body in support of your body’s processes. Vitamins A, C and E, for example, act as antioxidants to protect your cells against toxins, and B vitamins help you extract energy from the foods you eat. Calcium and phosphorus keep your bones strong, while sodium and potassium help to transmit nerve signals. Without a healthy diet, you might compromise any of these essential functions.

Weight Control

In addition to the quality of the foods you consume, the quantity matters when considering good eating habits. Taking in the same number of calories as you burn ensures your weight remains steady over time. Consuming more than you burn, on the other hand, results in weight gain as your body converts extra calories to fat tissue. When you accumulate fat tissue, you increase your risk of developing one or more health problems, including heart disease, hypertension, respiratory issues, diabetes and cancer. A healthy meal plan without excess calories helps you not only feel better but can prolong your life.

If you are not used to eating a healthy diet that promotes your well-being, making gradual changes can help you improve the way you eat in the long run. You can substitute water for high-calorie, sugary drinks, for example, and switch from full-fat to low-fat dairy products. Selecting lean meats instead of fatty cuts and whole-wheat grains instead of refined grains can lower your intake of unhealthy fats and increase your dietary fiber intake. Fresh fruits and vegetables contain less sodium than canned, and snacking on fresh, crunchy produce like carrots, apples and cucumber slices is healthier than the fats and salt in chips.

What do you know about “Human Wonders”?

Great Wall, China

The Great Wall, one of the greatest wonders of the world, was listed as a World Heritage by UNESCO in 1987. Just like a gigantic dragon, the Great Wall winds up and down across deserts, grasslands, mountains an
d plateaus, stretching approximately 8,851.8 kilometers (5,500 miles) from east to west of China. With a history of more than 2000 years, some of the sections are now in ruins or have disappeared. However, it is still one of the most appealing attractions all around the world owing to its architectural grandeur and historical significance.

Leaders in Ancient China were always worried about being invaded by their enemies to the north. So around 500 B.C., a few Chinese states started building defensive walls. When these Chinese states were unified in 221 B.C., Emperor Qin Shi Huang ordered that the existing walls be joined. That was the beginning of the Great Wall of China.

Building the Great Wall wasn’t easy. It took hundreds of thousands of workers, soldiers, and prisoners more than 2,000 years to build and re-build the wall that stands today. Stretching for about 4,000 miles from the Pacific Ocean at Shanhai Pass to Jiayu Pass in central China, the Great Wall is an average of 33 feet high and 15 feet wide. Some sections were constructed of large limestone and granite blocks. Others were made from bricks. Still others were built from wood and dirt. The workers along the wall’s route used the best materials they could find nearby. They even sometimes used a mixture of sticky rice and egg whites to make the mortar that held the stones and bricks together.
